The Graduate Program in Economics (PPGE)
The Graduate Program in Economics at the Federal University of Uberlândia (PPGE-UFU) was stablished in 1996, with a Master’s Degree in Economic Development. The program was later renamed MSc in Economics, in 2000. The Economics Doctoral Program started in 2007.
PPGE´s main area of study is Economic Development, with the following research areas: i) Applied Economics; ii) Regional Economics and its Diversities; iii) Agriculture, Environment and Sustainable Development; iv) Public Policies and Economic Development.
PPGE´s faculty have been researching in the following subjects: Macroeconomics, Monetary and Financial Economics; International Economics and Trade; Growth and Economic Development; Agrarian and Natural Resource Economics; Public Sector Economics; Political Economy and Dependency Theory; Regional and Urban Economics; Social and Labor Economics; Microeconomics, Industrial and Technological Economics; International Monetary and Financial Relations.
Researchers and Students at PPGE-UFU can be found in six different Research Centers: Center for Applied Economics; Center for Economic Development; Center for Social and Labor Economics; Center for Regional and Urban Development; Center of International Relations; Center for Rural Studies.
PPGE has also expertise on issues related to the development of the Triângulo Mineiro region and the Brazilian Cerrado, especially issues related to territorial and rural development, agricultural financing, family farming, food security, the environment and sustainable development.
In addition to its Master´s and Doctoral Programs, PPGE also offers a Postdoctoral Fellowship Program and a “Special Student” Program, which gives the opportunity for current graduate students from other programs, and prospective students, to enroll in PPGE´s graduate-level classes.
